The collections for the Spring/Summer 2014 season are currently being presented in London, yet, if you browse the Internet very carefully, you may stumble upon better and more unique designs than the ones you may be seeing at the various runway shows.
A perfect example is this light coat by Nukeme and Ucnv. The idea for this piece – a laboratory coat, but in a multicoloured digital print – comes from Japanese glitch artist and programmer Ucnv, known for his brightly coloured and clever works such as Turpentine and New Vulnerability.
The coat was developed in collaboration with Nukeme, the Japanese artist behind the glitch knits that appeared on this site a while back. Ucnv worked on the digital patterns for the textiles, Nukeme designed instead the silhouette and did the sewing.
The coat, in 100% cotton, comes in two sizes (medium and large), and in two versions in bright colours or in a more muted and darker palette. You can order both of them from Etsy, they are shipped directly from Tokyo and cost around $310, a very reasonable amount considering that these are unique pieces suspended between craftsmanship and technology.
The coats are currently part of an exhibition at 403 Forbidden, an alternative space in Shibuya, Tokyo.
