In a previous post on this site I extensively wrote about a photographic exhibition, "Creating the Look: Benini and Fashion Photography", at Sydney's Powerhouse Museum that focused on Bruno and Hazel Benini's work.
Born in Italy but migrated to Australia with his parents in 1935, Bruno Benini is considered as one of the most iconic fashion photographers of the mid-20th century in the land down under.
The Powerhouse Museum did a great job with that exhibition and its curator Anne-Marie Van de Ven just got in touch with me via email to let me know they have just released a lovely video on YouTube to pay homage to the photographer.
Directed by Jean-François Lanzarone, the video is a mix of the Bruno and Hazel Benini's images, with interview samples in Italian and English, poetry quotes (Dante, Baudelaire, Yeats and Elizabeth Barrett Browning) and music.
The video is a lovely example of photography in motion, a brief film with a strong poetic edge that I hope will inspire those directors who are into the film and fashion connection to develop something a little bit more in-depth than the usually refined but cold avant-garde fashion films that end up showing beautiful models and clothes. Enjoy!
