AmydelaHaye2_ShirinGuild_byMarcLeGalle British Iranian fashion designer Shirin Guild established her label in London in the early '90s. Self-taught, Guild first started making clothes for herself because she couldn't find things she liked in the shops.

Her designs – in materials such as cashmere, linen, cotton, hemp, bamboo and paper – are mainly inspired by Iranian peasant clothes or traditional Iranian dress, though characterised by oversized silhouettes and squarish shapes that – at times derived from kimonos – won her comparisons with Japanese designers such as Issey Miyake and Yohji Yamamoto.

Some of her pieces like this loose and layered linen ensemble are part of the Victoria and Albert Museum collection.

Guild will showcase her Autumn/Winter 2011-12 collection at The Octagon, Milsom Place, Bath, 5th-9th October 2011.

In the meantime, you can learn more about her from this video featuring Amy de la Haye lecturing about Guild during the "Trans/National Clothing Conference" at Bath Spa University (this is a 5-minute preview of a longer video, so you will have to install Veoh Video Compass to watch the full video in your browser or download it to your PC).
