Passionate about World Textiles: John Gillow

The latests posts have all been focusing on the lectures held during the "Trans/National Clothing Conference" at Bath Spa University.

Yet it wasn't all lectures and learning and last week we also visited a textile fair. Here Dr Clare Rose, fashion and textile historian (it was actually Clare who came up with the theme of the conference, so well done to her!), introduced me to John Gillow.

John is a traveller, textile dealer and author of books on world textiles. He has done work for the British Museum and the Museum of Mankind and has been commissioned to collect contemporary textiles for the V&A. India, Africa, Sri Lanka and Mongolia, you mention it and John has been there. As Clare told me, "He's the original!"
