Anne_Cosplay_byMarcLeGalle It's always great to see again in a different context people you have met during previous lectures. I first met Anne Peirson-Smith, Assistant Professor in the Department of English at City University of Hong Kong, while in Philadelphia for the "Fashion in Fiction: The Dark Side of Fashion" lecture.

We finally met again this week in Bath for the "Trans/National Clothing Conference" where Anne fascinated me with her researches and studies about Cosplay.

In the last few years Anne put together some outstanding material, including films and photographs documenting this trend suspended between fashion and theatrical performance. I really hope Anne will publish her research soon (could we have a cool book of photographs, an in-depth essay and a fun documentary as well, Anne? Please!).

In the meantime, I'm embedding in this post her lecture "You will have a ball: fancy dress up motivations, production and consumption practices". The quality of my camera is not amazing, but there are some great images in the video. Please note: this is a 5-minute preview of a longer video, so you will have to install Veoh Video Compass to watch the full video in your browser or download it to your PC.

I really enjoyed reading your blog. I have a few blogs of my own and I always look at other people’s blogs for great ideas. Thanks for sharing this information.

  2. Avatar Spiderman Costumes

Amazing. I’m also fascinated by cosplay. Just imagining thousands of people dressed up as different movie/cartoon or whatever character they are portraying is just simply amazing. It’s a fun experience to be part of.

  3. Avatar halloween costumes

I’ve been to a few anime convention myself. The time and effort cosplayers put into every little detail of their costumes is just astounding. So much so that some actually look almost exactly like the character they’re posing as.

Cosplay is a part of fashion, that’s right!
