The Return of Loïe Fuller and Martha Graham (in a Fashion Ad…) |

Loïe Fuller and Martha Graham already appeared in previous posts on this site: the former was mentioned in connection with her iconic “Serpentine Dance” and her 1925 performance "La Mer"; the latter got instead a post on her 117° birth anniversary that also looked at the importance of the simple jersey tube transforming Graham's body as she danced in “Lamentation”.

Shot by Mel Bles, the advert for Missoni’s Autumn 2011 collection (the ad for last Autumn's collection was instead shot by Kenneth Anger as you may remember) somehow moves from Loïe Fuller and Martha Graham.

The advert features indeed models Katlin Aas, Valerija Kelava, Kinga Rajzak, Kristina Salinovic performing a sort of "Serpentine Dance" (more than a "Lamentation"-inspired choreography; check out the video I embedded here for Fuller's iconic dance) in Missoni designs. Maybe someone has been reading my posts, after all (and if the Missoni people are reading this, maybe they can finally provide feedback on the film project I sent them a while back?).
