Corrugated Structures, Continuous Landscapes

Among the various things I’ve been working on recently there is also a personal research into structure, construction and spaces in connection with fashion and architecture. One very inspiring image I saved in a folder connected with my research relates to a work of art entitled “Solaris” currently exhibited in the Venezuela Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

This paper structure was created by Caracas-based artist Yoshi. The sculpture covers one of the walls, creating a sort of continuous abstract landscape made using a strip of paper that Yoshi folded and pleated, employing a topographic approach to design and developing new spaces within a single serpentine and undulating plane.

Yoshi is self-taught and has been using paper since he was six years old, experimenting with it and creating out of geometrical patterns and origami-like structures artwork and mural decorations, objects of design and even dresses and accessories. You can discover further works on Yoshi's Flickr showcase.
