Bus Stopping in Philadelphia

Elena Brennan’s Philadelphia-based boutique is called Bus Stop, but it’s actually a plane trip through different countries and continents.

Indeed, Brennan’s passion for shoes led her to carry out a wide and impressive research into footwear and her shop – opened in 2007 – is currently stocked with American, Australian, Brazilian, British, Canadian, Dutch, French, Italian and Mexican designers and labels.

Located in Philadelphia's Fabric Row, Bus Stop sells shoes for every taste, from flats to high heels, from environmentally-friendly to incredibly trendy, in the most disparate materials, kid leather, fabric and fish skins included, and for both men and women.

The current shop window is dedicated to the Autumnal season and features designs by Irregular Choice, United Nude, farylrobin, 80%20, and Jeffrey Campbell.

I was impressed to see the shop also stocks Bloch, a company founded in Sydney, Australia, in 1932 by Jacob Bloch, mainly specialised in the technical dance field and producing, like Repetto (also stocked by Bus Stop), high-quality ballet and pointe shoes for ballerinas worldwide.

Bus Stop also organises monthly events showcasing the work of emerging artists and local fashion and accessories designers.

Last week the boutique was involved together with Goldenberg Photography, Jibe Design and Naquib Hossain in an exhibition – part of the DesignPhiladelphia event – that analysed the darker aspects of the concept of “home”, exploring through architecture, photographs and shoe installations new urban possibilities.

This week (Friday 22nd October, from 5:30pm to 8:30pm) there is instead a "Mad Make-Up Tea Party" dedicated to Irregular Choice.

Guess if you're in Philadelphia and you're a shoe addict, a stop in Brennan's boutique could almost be considered as an obligatory visit.
