FabricRow_Philly_byABattista There is something I really love doing when I'm visiting a place I've never been before: getting lost in areas where you don't see too many tourists.

Such places allow you to discover more about a specific city, its history and inhabitants and, in some cases, even turn into sources of invaluable inspirations.

If you're a fashion designer, try not to miss for example Fabric Row in Philadelphia. This district located around the Southern part of the city features shops selling fabrics, textiles and haberdashery, but also quite interesting art galleries, bookshops, bakeries and cafes.

I had a nice and relaxing walk around Fabric Row the other day and it was really inspiring looking at the shop windows, browsing some of the haberdashery and textile stocks and looking for unusual fabrics/prints or special buttons, threads and ribbons.

It was definitely far from the more touristy itineraries and provided a pleasant alternative – especially in the early morning hours – to more conventional sightseeing activities.
