Since arriving in Florence I promised – or rather, I solemnly promised – Roberta Corsi from the Casa Corsi guest house, I would have behaved well.
Oh no, don't worry I've never destroyed her rooms following the example of some fashion or rock celebrity, but she knows that I have a tendency to misbehave when the Pitti PR officers deny me accreditation to catwalk shows.
Roberta automatically turns into a mother, a friend and a confidante for the people staying at her house, so I couldn't really disappoint her.
Having therefore promised not to shout, answer back and generally misbehave, I decided to look nasty rather than being nasty and went out in my Diabolik T-shirt, bi-coloured hairstyle evoking the dichotomies behind Eva Kant and Diabolik and latex finger tips (just get a pair of latex gloves and cut them off).
Then crimes started happening around me: while at the awarding ceremony for the "Who's On Next" competition (where the people I supported didn't win…), a thief stole Suzy Menkes's bag.
I was around the place, but, unfortunately, I didn't see anything since it had started to rain pretty heavily, so people dispersed here and there and quickly scattered.
From what I have heard, further people were victims of crimes during the last two days, so if you're around Florence at the moment or you will be going to the Pitti, watch out for, erm, Diabolik (?).
After the accident happened I went to the Fortezza to have a further look around and, while walking among the various stands, my mind went back to the crime theme as soon as I spotted some of Ultrachic's new designs.
I must admit I do have a fascination with tape and with the red and white plastic strips you use to cordon off areas, but I never used them to do much apart from temporary decorations on shirts and trousers.
Ultrachic instead employed the iconic yellow “Crime Scene” and red and white “Fragile” tape as prints for silk dresses, cotton shirts and blazers in a silk and wool blend and used the "Crime Scene – Do Not Enter" as an ironic message on the label of most of the womenswear items in the new collection.
While the brand's new menswear collection mainly features T-shirts characterised by a punkish and rock'n'roll aesthetic, the women's pieces are a sort of clash of vibrant and distorted prints and psychedelic patterns decorated in some cases with buttons inspired by Sex Pistols' album covers. Though the latter looked rather interesting, I think I still prefer the "crime scene"/"fragile" prints.
So did I keep my promise and behave today? Well, I guess I did. I'm indeed filing 'helping four photographers who didn't get credited for the Haider Ackermann's show getting in using just one invitation card', under the “good deed category” (no photographer = no picture, more people will benefit from what I've done, so that's definitely a good deed…).
