Return of the Swedish Thread: Ferragamo, Garbo and Bergman

Ferragamo_Garbo_SwedenExhibition After writing the previous post I dug out some images I took almost three years ago during the Shoes Have It All exhibition organised in the Armoury of Stockholm’s Royal Palace.

The exhibition had an interesting subtitle, "Power, Vanity and Magic" and focused on the meaning that shoes can have.

While revealing our style and taste to other people, boots and shoes – the exhibition argued – are also social indicators.

The main theme of the exhibition was therefore explored through hundreds of different men and women’s shoes, from the 1500s on.

A display cabinet of the exhibition was dedicated to the story of Salvatore Ferragamo and to his connection with Sweden and featured a drawing of Greta Garbo's foot, Ingrid Bergman's last and two pairs of shoes, the suede shoe with leather-clad cork wedge heel named 'Attica' and designed for Greta Garbo and a red suede ballerina shoe edged with calf hide created for Ingrid Bergman.

If you are interested in exploring further the Ferragamo-Sweden connection, check out Roberto Rossellini's film Viaggio in Italia (1954): Ferragamo created the shoes Bergman wears in the film.
