On a pitch-black afternoon, the architecture-inspired video installation projected on the window of bookshop Konst-ig, in Stockholm’s Söder, was a welcomed vision, so I quickly got in.
This bookshop – founded in 1994 and owned by Charlotte Ekbom and Helene Boström – was recommended to me by Sandra Backlund and I must genuinely thank her for redirecting me here.
Being located just around the corner from my room at the Creators Inn by Elvine, meant I went there a couple of times to have a proper look at what was on the shelves, getting the confirmation that this is definitely a safe haven for art, photography, architecture, design, graphic design and fashion professionals and lovers, thanks to a stock that features hundreds of titles by both international and Scandinavian publishing houses.
Apart from books, the shop also stocks journals and magazines, but there is one great service that they offer that really intrigues me: indeed, Konst-ig also organises a consultancy service.
This means that the bookshop offers advice to schools, institutions or offices interested in building up a reference library with volumes about specific subjects.
But that’s not all: if you are a writer and are going to publish an art book, Konst-ig can also offer you a distribution consultation service.
If, for the time being, you don’t have any chances of passing through Stockholm and visit the shop, you can still keep up to date with the new books arriving in store or the innovative projects organised by its owners by subscribing to its newsletter. If you don’t want to trust my word, then simply remember that the shop boasts among its most famous clients architect Peter Zumthor and photographer Mario Testino, guess you can definitely trust their tastes.
