There is still a rather Christmassy atmosphere in Stockholm, mainly due to the nice lights decorating the streets, the snow falling and the thick ice on the ground.
My favourite Christmas decorations are the ones in Gamla Stan, the beautiful Old Town of Stockholm.
I love them for one main reason: when the lights are off the metal star-shaped decoration seems to reflect the snow, the ice and the light of the sky filtered through the narrow streets.
This contributes to give you from a distance the illusion the decorations were made of mother-of-pearl (a material that has always fascinated me) rather than metal (see first image in this post).
The only problem with these lights is that if, like me, you have a rather vivid imagination and tend to look around you trying to find something that can inspire you (and inevitably managing to find it..),
you may forget where you are putting your feet and slip on the thick ice, injuring some vital parts of your extremely cold body (a knee in my case…).
At the same time, though, you will provide endless fun and entertainment for international tourists and locals alike with the sort of Cirque du Soleil-like acrobatic jump people usually pay for to see (don't worry, there is a chemist shop in Gamla Stan…).
