The first thing that came to my mind when I looked out of the window of the Creators Inn by Elvine room at the Scandic, was Astrid Lindgren's Karlsson på taket (Karlsson on the Roof).
It was easy to imagine a little man with a propeller on his back hovering around the windows of the hotel and maybe becoming friends with him, skiing on the snow-covered roofs as if they were mountains and generally misbehaving like a little child.
You can easily understand why I went out with fun, chaos and hope in my heart, three things that were soon crushed by the low temperature, that is -7/-8°C, and a few inches of thick ice on the pavement.
After I accidentally slipped and found myself sitting on the pavement, I woke up from my Karlsson-inspired dream and remembered I was having a walk around the Scandic and not running on roofs with the little fictional man.
Soon after I also lost sensitivity in four fingers out of ten and couldn't feel my nose and upper lip anymore.
In a nutshell, I had a sort of Glasgow déjà vu experience for a moment, though the signs of frostbite in this case were even worse.
“It's all part of the plan…more or less”, I told myself, repeating Special Agent Oso's catchphrase and put a brave face to the uncomfortable situation.
Luckily the Momiji dolls in the window of an interior design shop in Åsögatan – looking a little bit like the cute plastic aliens in Toy Story – made me feel rather opstimistic, restoring my faith in great things to come.
