The Göteborg International Film Festival may not be that well known as other European and more established festivals, but it's definitely an appointment to look forward to since it always features an exciting programme.
In 2010 the event will celebrate its 33rd edition and the main theme for next year's festival is going to be "sharing".
This theme will be applied to different fields, from the Internet to natural resources, and will be analysed by the main programme and the seminars and workshops connected to it.
One of the other themes connected to the Göteborg International Film Festival will be the African continent.
The latter will be explored through nine films by African filmmakers, among them also Soul Boy, the first film by Kenyan filmmaker Hawa Essuman, Burdening Memories of a Cleaning Lady (Souvenirs encombrants d’une femme de ménage) by Danii Kouyaté and St Louis Blues (Un transport en commun) by Dyana Gaye.
Golden Lion Winnder for Best Film at the 2009 Venice Film Festival Samuel Maoz, director of Lebanon will be among the most prominent guests of the festival.
I'm looking forward to seeing the entire film festival programme and I really hope that in future I'll be able to get actively involved in this event, maybe with a seminar touching upon fashion, style, costume design and cinema.
The Göteborg International Film Festival runs from 29th January to 8th February 2010.
