I often think that updating the fashion calendar is an almost impossible or extremely challenging task, since new fashion events mushroom all over the world almost on an everyday basis.

With competition rising and with the crisis influencing the decisions of many designers to opt for presentations rather than proper catwalk shows, some established fashion weeks such as Milan’s have lost their appeal in favour of younger and fresher events.

Among the latter there is Berlin’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week that has turned for many critics into an interesting fashion appointment to spot new and exciting designers.

This is why the volume entitled Backstage: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin scheduled to be published by teNeues in January 2010 seems to be a perfectly timed publication.

The book features a selection of images by photographer Claudius Holzmann who shot the fashion week from the very beginning.

Selecting the images must have been rather difficult as Holzmann went through roughly 40,000 pictures, but the final choice – a mix of photographs portraying designers, makeup artists and models – is simply spot on as it definitely manages to show the excitement, fun and drama that goes on behind the scenes of such an event.

Looking forward to seeing if there are going to be any special events about the book during the next Berlin's Fashion Week that will be on from 20th to 23rd January 2010.
