In yesterday's and today's (earlier) posts I explored different trends in contemporary knitwear with two innovative designers.
Yet there’s knitwear and knitwear and nowadays there are even guerrilla style knitters who are using this medium to cover up in colourful stitches monuments, vehicles and historical highlights of cities across the world.
With this post I want to explore a little bit further knitwear and take you back to knitting in the 30s.
I'm republishing here (click on the images to blow them up) the original instructions (in French) to make one waistcoat and three jumpers published in the "Nos Tricots" column of the December issue of French fashion magazine Les Jardin des Modes.
This was a rather interesting issue since it explored the latest trends regarding winter sportswear and in particular skiing suits.
The author of the knitting instructions highlights indeed how the waistcoat ("gilet natté") and the first jumper ("blouse chemisier") in sea blue and beige are perfect to wear for winter sports, though the latter is also ideal for golf matches or outings in the countryside.
This blouse is actually my favourite together with the “sweater a cravate”, a cashmere jumper that features a brown scarf with a delicate beige polka dot print. Happy knitting!
