There will be many events celebrating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall this Autumn, but if you are into fashion and design and would like to discover how these themes tie in with contemporary Berlin, try the book Berlin Now, published by teNeues.
With a foreword by Hungarian writer, Nobel Laureate in Literature and Berlin resident-by-choice Imre Kertész, and edited by Dagmar von Taube, a journalist for the Sunday newspaper Welt am Sonntag, the book features over 300 images by famous photographers, from Helmut Newton to Mario Testino, Peter Lindbergh, Andreas Mühe, Philipp von Hessen and Hudley Hudson just to mention a few.
The volume chronicles through portraits of artists, film directors, fashion designers, politicians and entrepreneurs, the changing processes that Berlin went through in the last twenty years, highlighting in particular the internationalisation process that radically transformed this European capital.
My favourite photograph featured in the book was taken by Daniel Biskup and shows Karl Lagerfeld pictures as he walks down the steps of an underground station in the middles of the night.
I particularly like it since this image manages to mix glamour and fashion with urban architecture and in a way it perfectly symbolises what Berlin has become in the last twenty years.
