Sardinia_1 The video you find at the end of this post is a virtual tour of the exhibition "La Sardegna veste la moda" – that opened last week at Palazzo Pitti’s Galleria del Costume – I shot on the opening night, 17th June 2009.

This is a 5-minute preview of a longer video, so you will have to install Veoh Video Compass to watch the full video in your browser or download it to your PC.

To know more about the exhibition you can read my review on Dazed Digital.

The video also features some images of the second part of the collection from the Costume Gallery at Palazzo Pitti.

You weren’t supposed to take pictures or shoot in the other parts of the gallery, so I couldn’t film in the first part of the gallery that mainly features pieces from the 1700s.

Sardinia_9_jackets_Mugler_Margielaetc The Costume Gallery inside Palazzo Pitti is famous for preserving the funeral garments of the Granduca Cosimo I, his wife Eleonora di Toledo and his son Don Garcia (all from the 1500s).

The part I hastily managed to film is the second part of the gallery that features dresses and accessories from 1937 on. I was happy to discover that a couple of pieces (from the 1920s) were donated by tailor Umberto Tirelli (check out the video around 13:52), the "archaeologist of fashion" I often mentioned in previous posts in this blog.

Sardinia_17 You will also see in the video designs by Yves Saint Laurent (from 17:59), Christian Dior, Balmain, Balenciaga, John Galliano, Karl Lagerfeld, Valentino, Gianfranco Ferré, Armani, Maurizio Galante (probably some of the most interesting pieces, check out the video around 19:05), Giulia Carla Cecchi (19:24), Comme des Garçons, Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto (19:39), a few interesting jewels by Flora Wiechmann Savioli from 1958 until 1969 (20:00, I will hopefully dedicate to her a post in the future), and a quick shoot of the final displays with shoes, gloves and small accessories such as umbrellas.

I had to rush towards the very end as the gallery was closing down and the place had been abandoned by most of the visitors who were reaching the Boboli Gardens to follow Undercover’s event.
