Departing and arriving are the two main “activities” you can carry out at airports. So in a way it’s highly symbolic that, after four years in Barcelona, Bread & Butter, the well known international specialist trade fair for street and urban wear, is moving back to its hometown, Berlin, setting home in a new location, the former Berlin Tempelhof Airport.
Opened in 1923, Tempelhof was the world’s first airport with an underground railway station in 1927 and one of Europe’s three pre-World War II airports. When it first opened the airport was also among the top 20 large buildings on earth.
Set in this architecturally interesting space, this year’s Bread & Butter will give the chance to 550 brand, labels and designers to exhibit their products under the iconic canopy-style roof of the airport.
The international exhibitors will be spread onto nine different areas – “Denim Base”, “Fashion Now”, “L.O.C.K.”, “Sport & Street”, “Street Fashion”, “Style Society”, “The Source”, “Urban Superior Women” and “Urban Superior Men” – a division that will allow visitors, expected to arrive from all over Europe, but also from the United States and Japan, to explore the tradeshow and easily spot the brands and designers they want to meet. 
Hungry visitors will be able to rest at the newly opened airport restaurant Airbase-1, located in the gallery in the entrance hall with an amazing view over the airfield. Those visitors who don’t just like to sit and watch but also want to act, can instead join the charitable project launched by Bread & Butter. Every year since 2004 various labels offer a limited number of clothes and accessories that can be bought at the trade show and through the B&B Webshop. This is a good way to bring home a B&B souvenir and do a good deed at the same time.
Bread & Butter will launch on 30th June 2009 at the Columbihalle with a concert by Swedish band Mando Diao.
