I often take pictures of unusual objects I may see that I particularly like or save scraps of materials and images of patterns that capture my attention and imagination since I always think that one day they may become useful.
I don’t actually conceive them simply as inspirations for blog posts, but I often dream of being able to transform them into prints and use them on my own fabrics or small accessories.
A while back I saw these old bottles in the window of a chemist shop in Italy and I couldn't resist taking a picture.
Luckily it was closing time, otherwise they would have thought I was a rather extravagant tourist who had never seen old chemist jars.
I think I can see a collection with a sort of pharmaceutical theme in these glass/porcelain jars.
I’m fascinated by the shapes of the bottles (in particular by the crystal clear glass bottles in the third row from the top of the first pic) that I think could be applied to the shapes and silhouettes of skirts and dresses.
But the bottles and the porcelain vial with the bowl of Hygieia (the symbol of pharmacy – a snake with a bowl, ) in pale blue could be used as intriguing subjects for prints for both men and womenswear items, maybe mixed with black and white prints of L. Richard's illustrations portraying French chemist and founder of modern chemistry Antoine-Laurent Lavoisier or his equipment.
Maybe pharmaceutical prints on clothes and accessories may be seen as rather unusual, but I think they would prove historically more interesting and slightly less banal than many other prints out there at the moment.
