One of the most interesting presentations that took place during Milan Fashion Week was a collaboration – showcased at the White Club – between Sandra Backlund and historical knitwear company Maglificio Miles.
I dedicated a couple of posts in the past to Sandra and also mentioned Miles in another post last November.
Though both Sandra and the Maglificio don’t know yet if the collaboration will continue and if the samples produced will one day go on sale, the project was important as it helped the Swedish designer to overcome her fear of working with machines and proved once again that Miles is up for a challenge, even an almost impossible one.
I found this project particularly interesting from many points of view: it will help bringing back more attention on historical knitwear companies which are often well-known by people involved in the fashion industry but that are usually ignored by younger fashionistas or by avant-garde style magazines, while it may also sparkle further collaborations between such well-established companies and young and talented designers.
