A few weeks ago Diane Pernet brought to Rome a reduced version of the film festival A Shaded View on Fashion Film.

The 60-minute version of the event also featured “Mareunrol’s Private Detective” by Latvian film director Kristīne Kursiša.
Inspired by film noir, gangster and detective stories, the film introduced the latest collection by Latvian artists and designers Mārīte Mastiņa and Rolands Pēterkops from the Mareunrol’s duo.

Mastiņa and Pēterkops also took part in the event and brought with them the yellow housewife’s dress complete of oven glove featured in Kursiša’s film.

I was happy to meet Mārīte and Rolands in Rome, though I wish I had had a bit more time to spend with them.
So it was nice to hear again from them a few days ago when they sent me an email that contained some beautiful images taken by photographer Iveta Vaivode.

The photos – they explained me via email – were a continuation of their “Private Detective” series (you could probably guess it also from the iconic gigantic wigs the models are wearing…) and were taken in the Latvian countryside where they found a place where a man had built a snow house for his daughters as a Christmas present.

The models in the film cut striking silhouettes in Mareunrols’ trench coats and dark grey suits on the white background of the snow house. I’m not sure yet which is my favourite image, but I love the one in which a fox seems to stop to look at the alien creatures inhabiting the wintry landscape. You could easily make up a story behind these images.

Mārīte and Rolands also told me they are among the selected finalists at the Hyères Festival. There are still quite a few weeks to go before the winners are announced, but, in the meantime, if you’re in Barcelona, you can catch up with the Mareunrol’s duo at the third edition of the “080 Barcelona Fashion” event, from 16th to 18th March.

The event will showcase the A/W 09 collections of 29 designers in total – eleven of them are from Spain, 10 designers come from other countries (among then there are also Aminaka Wilmont, J. Smith Esquire, Cecilia Sörensen, Mark Fast and Klavers van Engelen) and 8 were selected by the Bressol Poject.

At the end of the event the overall winner of the €20,000 prize for the Best Collection (Premio 080 Barcelona Fashion a la Mejor Colección) will be announced.

“Suerte!” to Mareunrol’s then and…

…enjoy these wonderful images in the meantime.
